One Heck of a Dinner Party.

Well yesterday's post was about the people, today's post is about the fabulous event put on by those people.

When Delaney & Austin first approached me about capturing their fabulous day - I knew I was in for a treat. He likes soccer and good beer, she loves cooking and has an incredible knack for details...not to mention they are just really genuine and enjoyable people. (For extra credit - they took me out for a pint at one of my favorite watering holes - 12th South Taproom!) As they began to unfold the day for me, I relaxed in the overwhelmingly fresh air...

"This isn't about cliche photo ops, or about typical wedding moments...this is about homemade love, an awesome party with friends and family...and good food of course!"

My job? Capture that.

Phenomenal venue that came through in the last minute clutch? Houston Station
Best dang snowballs around handcrafted by: Fleur de Lis Flavors
And of course...the wicked good food catered by: B & C Bar-B-Q

Seton Celebration

Each year, Saint Thomas Health Services holds the annual Seton Celebration which benefits patients in need at Baptist and Saint Thomas Hospitals. This year it was held at the beautiful Schermerhorn Symphony Center in downtown Nashville. Not only is it an impressive sight, but the philanthropy in the air is more than refreshing. Needless to say...I was more than honored to be part of and capture the event. A sincere thank you to Jenny Richter Special Events for bringing me out for this one. Here's a few from the evening:

Fire trucks rule, girls drool.

Shooting 2 & 4 year olds birthdays isn't really my forte, but it was boys only and they had a fire truck...how could I say no?

Help-Portrait...A Reflection.

Some of you may recall back in August when I first blogged about local photographer Jeremy Cowart's seemingly unbridled idea of another way to give back during the holiday's: Help-Portrait. To say I loved the idea would be an understatement, but in the end I figured it would be a local 'Nashville thing' that would be 'neat.' It was more like a 'World' thing that I for one would describe as 'epic.'

Out of privacy and (moreso) respect, from the beginning there was an agreement not to share pictures of the individuals and familes from the actual day. So...as you can see, there are no pictures with this post. However, there is something a bit richer to be shared: stories.

As the day started, the location was buzzing with excitement as a community of photographers, hair & make-up artists, volunteers, sponsors and news stations swarmed around the location leading up to 'start-time.' We had no idea whether 40 or 400 people would show up, so as the time arrived, a bit of anxiousness set in.

Then it happened. The first face, the first life, the first real story walked in the doors, and all of a sudden it wasn't about the buzz. It became real as stories started flowing, and faces began smiling.

There was one story in particular that personally just grabbed my heart, and I would like to share it with you.

Her name we will say was N. N approached my set-up with a bit of sheepishness, and certainly a humbled woman. She had never had any sort of professional picture taken of her before.

So to help break the ice, I asked a simple question, "So N, who is this picture for?"

"My miracle boy."

"Miracle boy?" I ask. "Why is he your miracle boy."

N went on to tell me a bit of her story. She told me how she had fought and beat both breast cancer and ovarian cancer, which in its own right is a miracle story in and of itself. But of course, there is more. N was trying to have children, but lingering effects of the chemo and radiation were waging war with her system. She ended up getting pregnant four times...and she lost all.four.children.

She then became teary-eyed and went on to tell me how she was finished, and she was ready to take her own life. Then it happened. She got pregnant again...and grace abounded. Thirteen years ago she had her miracle child, a baby boy, and life had meaning again. She then, as any proud parent would, goes on to tell me stories about her boy with a smile from ear to ear. (By the way, he's no ordinary boy...just one of the stories is that at 11 years old he became the youngest Red Cross volunteer where he lives)

Every time I think back on that day (12.12.09) I get chills...and sometimes emotionally overwhelmed. To remember how a simple picture brought so much worth to someone just takes my breath away. I'm so very thankful I got to be a part of Help-Portrait, and I'm already excited for the ways in which 2010 will allow me to use my gift to richen someone elses life.

Emery Jayne Frazier

Well, this post doesn't need much introduction... As of 6:38 pm on September 29, 2009 I am an official Dad, and there are absolutely no words to describe the feeling. So, instead of me rambling on about how proud I am of Lindsey and how beautiful and breath-taking it is to stare into your childs eyes for the first time...I'll just let you enjoy a few pics from the big day - thanks to everyone for the prayers and encouragement...I can't wait for you all to meet her!

This was Lindsey's first picture with her straight out of the womb...notice the tear :)

Help-Portrait

Friends...it's been a quiet August, but this post is worth far more than any 'hey look at me and what I do' kind of stuff. Local Nashville photog Jeremy Cowart had a dream, and it's becoming reality, and I can't wait to be part of such an amazing occasion. Please take the time to watch this video and if you are moved like I was, let's join the story together. All the best - J. Fraz

To find out more information you can go to Help-Portrait's website to be put on the mailing list, and you can also follow the movement on Twitter at: @help_portrait.

Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk

This past weekend was a WORLDwide success! It was absolutely incredible the steam this event gained as the day drew near - over 32,000 photographers all coming together and snapping away. For those of you that aren't familiar with Scott Kelby's worldwide photowalk, USA Today ran a great article that you can find here. (Which was a big help in the final push for numbers!)

By the time I actually found out about the walk, Nashville was already filled up (where I live), so I ended up shooting downtown Franklin which was really cool. I used to live only a mile from 5 points (main intersection in downtown Franklin) so I thought I had seen it all before, but man was I wrong! I found so many nooks and crannies that I just can't wait to go back and shoot again! One neat aspect was that we shot from 7:00 - 9:00 am, and there's very few things open at that time, so we really had a clean look at things.

Well, I really tried to bring a different perspective to the day with my style, so don't hold your breath if you are looking for 'great shots to represent Franklin.' :) Nonetheless, here's a few I didn't throw out:

CMA After Party

I was absolutely honored when Universal called me once again to come shoot an event for them. This time it was the CMA after party held downtown in the Suntrust building. It was an absolutely crazy night, with good fun had by all. Big props to my boys from G.I. Inc for putting together an AMAZING space. Here's a few takes from the night:

That's George Strait, Julianne Hough, and Shania Twain respectively. It was a big night for UMG - Shania's 'comeback appearance,' George won album AND single of the year, and Sugarland got vocal duo of the year. Great night, and great party!
